TikTok is a 9:16 platform and barely negotiates on it. Video, photo posts, and covers all live in the same full-screen vertical frame, which makes it simpler than Instagram — but it also means anything not already vertical needs a deliberate crop rather than an upload-and-hope.

9:16 vertical, at 1080x1920 pixels. That is the full-screen phone frame, and it is what every native TikTok is shot in. Other ratios upload fine but get bars added around them.
1080x1920. Photo mode will accept squares and landscape images, but it pads them into the vertical frame rather than filling it, so you give up a large chunk of screen for no reason.
You can, and it will be letterboxed into a thin band in the middle of the screen. If the footage was shot horizontally, cropping to 9:16 usually reads better than the bars — you lose the sides but keep the impact.
200x200 minimum, square, displayed as a circle. Upload something larger like 500x500 or 1000x1000 and let TikTok resize it down; that survives future display changes better than uploading at the minimum.
The bottom third carries the username, caption, and music row, and the right edge carries the like, comment, and share rail. The top holds the tab bar. Roughly the middle 80% vertically and 85% horizontally is genuinely safe.
