Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most common social media image size?

1080x1920 (9:16 vertical) is now the single most used size, because TikTok, Instagram Reels and Stories, and YouTube Shorts all share it. One export covers all four. For static feed posts, 1080x1350 (4:5) is the most common.

Can I use the same image across every platform?

Partly. A 9:16 vertical works everywhere short-form video lives. Feed posts are the problem — Instagram wants 4:5, thumbnails want 16:9, and profile pictures want 1:1. The practical approach is to keep one high-resolution master and batch-resize it into each shape rather than re-exporting by hand.

Why do my images get cropped when I upload them?

Because they fall outside the ratios the platform supports, so it trims them to fit — almost always with a centre crop, which is rarely where you would have cut. Resizing before you upload means you choose what stays in frame.

Should I upload at the exact recommended size?

Match the recommended width and let the height follow the ratio. Going much larger does not improve quality, because platforms re-compress everything on the way in — it just means your image is downsampled harder before anyone sees it.
